APS18 pH Electrode for Flue Gas Desulfurization and Exhaust-Gas Treatment

The ARTang APS18 is an industrial glass pH electrode designed for continuous pH measurement in wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) slurry, exhaust-gas scrubber liquid and related wastewater applications containing suspended solids, sulfur-containing ions and heavy-metal ions.

Product highlights:

  • Measurement range: 0–14 pH
  • Operating temperature: 0–100°C
  • Operating pressure: 0–3 bar
  • Standard PG13.5 process connection
  • Insertion lengths: 120, 150, 225, 325 or 425 mm
  • Multiple temperature-element and connector options

    Product Description

Wet flue gas desulfurization processes commonly circulate lime, limestone or magnesium-hydroxide slurry to absorb sulfur dioxide. Online pH measurement is used to monitor and control the liquid-phase chemistry, but suspended solids, scaling, sulfur-containing species and heavy-metal ions can coat the glass membrane, obstruct the liquid junction or contaminate the reference system.

The APS18 is configured for these demanding liquid-analysis duties. A high-temperature HT glass membrane supports pH measurement from 0 to 100°C, and the pressure-resistant glass body is specified for process pressure up to 3 bar. Available insertion lengths, temperature elements and electrical connectors allow the electrode to be matched to compatible holders, pH transmitters and replacement projects.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does the APS18 measure pH directly in flue gas?e HF or total fluoride?

No. A glass pH electrode measures an aqueous liquid or slurry. The APS18 is installed in the liquid phase of a wet scrubber, slurry tank, recirculation loop or wastewater process; it is not a direct gas-phase sensor.

Can the APS18 be used in dry SCR or SNCR denitrification?

Not as a direct gas-phase pH sensor. It may be used only where the overall exhaust-gas treatment system includes a suitable liquid or wastewater measurement point whose chemistry and installation conditions have been confirmed.

Why does the APS18 use a double-junction reference?

The additional electrolyte chamber increases the diffusion path between the process and the internal reference element. This helps reduce reference contamination by sulfur-containing and other poisoning ions.

Can the APS18 replace another PG13.5 pH electrode?

Possibly, but the PG13.5 thread alone is not sufficient. Also confirm insertion length, sealing position, holder geometry, connector, temperature element, cable and transmitter input.

How often should the APS18 be cleaned and calibrated?

The interval depends on slurry loading, gypsum or scale formation, sulfide exposure, process temperature and the required measurement confidence. Establish the interval by trending slope, zero point, drift and deposit buildup.
